The diagnosis of ARVD/C should not be based on results of an MRI alone. Fatty infiltration of the right ventricle is not diagnostic of ARVD. According to the proposed 2010 diagnostic criteria, an enlarged right ventricle is no longer sufficient. The diagnostic criteria now require the presence of akinesia, dyskinesia or aneurysm, in addition to, a decreased right ventricular ejection fraction or increased RV end diastolic volume to body surface area ratio. Specific cutoffs for this ratio and ejection fraction are indicated on the criteria table.

The Johns Hopkins ARVD Program is available for consultation to discuss MRI results and how they impact an individual’s working diagnosis of ARVD/C. Please contact the ARVD office at 410-502-7161 to schedule an appointment.
